Terms of service
Last updated
These are the terms for using Folie. They are short because the product is: you keep what you write, you bring your own model, and you can leave with everything at any time.
Folie is in early access. Features will change, some will be added and a few may be removed. Export is always available, so nothing you make here is ever locked in.
1. Your account
An account is for one person. You must be at least 16, give a working email address, keep your sign-in credential to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used it. What happens under your account is your responsibility until you do.
2. Your research
Everything you write, upload or generate in Folie stays yours. You give us only the permission we need to provide the service: to store your content, process it, show it to the people you share it with, and pass it to the services named in the privacy policy when a feature you use requires it. We do not use your content to train models, and we do not claim any other right in it.
Sharing is your decision. Projects are private to the members of their workspace. An AI-use record you publish can be read by anyone who has its link.
3. Bringing your own key
The assistant runs on a key you add for a provider of your choice. Your agreement with that provider governs what it does with your requests and what it charges you; Folie stores the key encrypted, uses it only for requests you start, and lets you remove it whenever you like. Where a deployment offers a key of its own, its operator sets the limits on using it.
4. AI output and records
Assistant output can be wrong, incomplete or unoriginal. You review it before you rely on it, and you are responsible for what you submit to any venue. The AI-use record is a signed account of what you declared and what Folie observed; it is not a certification that your work meets any journal’s, funder’s or institution’s policy.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use Folie to:
- store or share content that is unlawful, that infringes someone else’s rights, or that you do not have the right to use;
- store protected health information or other data whose handling is governed by a specific legal regime that Folie does not claim to meet;
- attempt to reach another person’s data, to bypass access controls, or to probe the service for weaknesses against data that is not yours;
- overload the service, whether by automation or by volume, or interfere with anyone else’s use of it;
- resell access, or misrepresent Folie’s records as something they are not.
If you find a security problem, tell us privately through the support page and give us time to fix it before you say anything publicly.
6. Paid plans
There are none yet: during early access every feature is included free. When paid plans open, the price and what it buys will be shown before you pay, payments will be taken by Stripe under its own terms, and you will be able to cancel from the billing page.
7. Leaving, and being asked to leave
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Data controls; the privacy policy says exactly what that removes. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and where the law allows we will give you the chance to export first.
8. Availability
We work to keep Folie up and your data safe, but during early access we make no promise of uninterrupted service, and you should keep your own copies of anything that matters. Export makes that a click.
9. Warranty and liability
Folie is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the same extent, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it, and a material change will be announced in the product before it takes effect. Using Folie after that date means you accept the new terms.
11. Contact
Questions about these terms go through the support page.
